Before you travel
What are guaranteed service hours ("fasce di garanzia")?
By Italian law (Law 146/1990), minimum services must be guaranteed even during transport strikes. Local public transport usually runs during peak hours (in many cities 6–9 am and 6–9 pm, but they vary from city to city); for trains, Trenitalia and Italo publish the list of guaranteed trains. Always check your transport operator's website.
Is my flight guaranteed?
For air transport strikes, ENAC (the Italian civil aviation authority) publishes the list of guaranteed flights before each strike; flights between 7 and 10 am and between 6 and 9 pm and connections to the islands are normally guaranteed. Check your airline's and ENAC's websites before going to the airport.
Can a strike be called off?
Yes, even at the last minute. When a cancellation appears in the official data, the strike's page is updated with the status CANCELLED. Always check again shortly before you travel.
Where does this data come from?
